Difficult period for the Russian currency

17.03.2021

“The most dangerous period” for the ruble is named. As Aleksandr Kazansky, Associate Professor of the Department of Credit Theory and Financial Management, Faculty of Economics, St. Petersburg State University, told the Prime agency, it cannot be ruled out that the period from early May to mid-June will be difficult for the domestic currency.

The specialist noted that there are positive trends, including oil prices, however, there are no less obvious factors “playing against the ruble”.

These, according to Kazansky, include the OPEC+ agreement on the restoration of oil production – the end of the cold period and a reduction in fuel demand, a possible third wave of the coronavirus pandemic and intensifying inflationary trends in Russia. Also, “the growing wave of non-payments from small businesses and retail clients” may play against the ruble.
