The cost of coffee has risen to a record

16.11.2021

Arabica coffee prices hit a 10-year record, according to the trade data.

Futures have held above $2.2 per pound (0.45 kilograms) since mid-November. The previous time the price of coffee rose above this mark in January 2012. During trading on Tuesday, November 16, December futures rose to $2.24 a pound.

The rise in price was caused by supply disruptions from major manufacturers. Brazil faced frost and drought, crops in Colombia were hit by heavy rainfall, and Vietnamese exports fell due to a lack of shipping containers. The USDA in its latest report said that global coffee stocks have fallen by 77 percent from last year. Coffee prices will continue to rise due to high transport costs, higher fertilizer prices and labor shortages.
