According to “the Big Mac Index”, the most undervalued currency in the world is the Russian ruble. Experts have found that the dollar rate is overestimated against the ruble: the American currency should not cost 74 rubles. Its maximum is 24 rubles.

“The Big Mac Index” is calculated on the basis of the hypothesis that the same goods in different countries should cost the same. Expert says, if it does not happen, it means that the rate of the local currency is greatly undervalued, or conversely, overvalued.

Considering, that in January 2021 the price of a Big Mac in the United States averaged $5.66, the dollar must cost 23.85 rubles to make the price of the Russian counterpart be identical. But in reality, the rate is several times higher (the magazine estimates the dollar at 74.63 rubles), a Big Mac in Russia costs 135 rubles on average.
