Russian national debt is growing

In the first quarter of 2021, Russia’s public debt grew by 741.3 billion rubles and came close to the figure of 20 trillion rubles, stopping at 19.7 trillion.
In percentage terms, growth in three months was 3.9 percent, total debt reached 17 percent of projected GDP. Domestic debt is equal to 15.434 trillion rubles (an increase of 4.6 percent), while external debt is $56.1 billion (a fall of 1.1 percent in dollars and an increase of 1.4 percent in rubles).

Last year, Russia’s national debt increased by 39.9 percent, to 18.99 trillion rubles. Against the background of the coronavirus pandemic, the Ministry of Finance has substantially increased the volume of federal loan bond (OFZ) placements.
