Revolut launches direct purchase of cryptocurrency into MetaMask wallets

06.03.2024

Revolut has joined forces with MetaMask Wallet to offer Revolut Ramp, a feature that will allow users to fund MetaMask wallets from their Revolut account.

The digital bank will allow users to make cryptocurrency purchases directly to MetaMask wallets in the UK and the European Economic Area (EEA) in an attempt to simplify self-service cryptocurrency wallet top-ups. Users can use the fiat currency balance in their Revolut account or pay with Visa or Mastercard, the press release said.

“This partnership is really about giving our users what they want – more control over their cryptocurrencies, in a simple way, using platforms they already know and trust,” said Lorenzo Santos, senior product manager at Consensys (developer of MetaMask).

“It also plays an important role in promoting wider adoption of cryptocurrencies, opening up the world of cryptocurrencies to more people,” Santos said.

In February, Revolut said it was going to introduce a cryptocurrency aimed at “advanced traders,” according to a customer email obtained by CoinDesk. Revolut currently offers basic cryptocurrency services to many of its 40 million customers.

In December, the company suspended cryptocurrency services to business customers in the U.K., citing new Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) rules governing cryptocurrency promotions.
