A new fight for the environment in the world

09.07.2021

The head of the Institute of International Finance (IIF) Adams in an interview proposed to fight for the global ecology in a new way – with the help of the international market for voluntary carbon credits.

The carbon crediting mechanism differs from the more advanced emission trading systems in the absence of national or international emission ceilings and in the voluntary nature of participation.

Companies purchase special instruments (called loans) issued by other firms or specialized environmental projects. It is expected that the funds paid for the loans will be used to finance initiatives, which are designed to reduce the overall level of harmful effects on the environment. Therefore, buyers reduce the negative effect of their own harmful emissions, which they cannot get rid of.
