NFT royalty on Ethereum reaches two-year low

07.07.2023

The royalties received by projects using unplayable tokens (NFT) have fallen to their lowest level in two years.

The drop in NFT royalties comes amid a recent drop in the minimum price of the NFT Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and the controversy surrounding Azuki Elementals mining.

Yuga Labs, the company that created BAYC, received royalties totaling $165.5 million from its portfolio of NFT collections, while RTFKT received royalties totaling $79.9 million from its collections.

According to the study, OpenSea stopped being the top royalty provider after rival marketplace Blur established a rule requiring a minimum deduction of 0.5 percent unless projects opted out or set a full percentage. Both markets pay the same royalty amounts, with Blur paying more as trading volume increases.

NFT’s top 10 collections have brought in more than $345 million in royalties, with Yuga Labs accounting for 44% of the top 10 with $150 million in royalties. Only 20 NFT projects have brought in more than $10 million in royalties so far.
