Hong Kong’s Bitcoin Spot ETFs Surpass HKD$2 Billion

“Our Bitcoin spot ETFs have reached an important milestone,” said representatives of investment companies in Hong Kong. The assets under management have exceeded 2 billion Hong Kong dollars, equivalent to about 256 million US dollars. However, the launch of these ETFs was less dynamic compared to those in the United States. In the first week after the launch on April 30, the funds attracted $262 million, but only $14 million of that amount came during that period. In contrast, US spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted billions of dollars upon their launch in January.

Analysts note that “the slow start of Bitcoin ETFs in Hong Kong is due to a limited choice for investors.” In Hong Kong, there are only three spot Bitcoin ETFs available, whereas the US already has 11. Nonetheless, over the past week, these funds increased their holdings to 4,450 BTC, equivalent to about 269 million US dollars.

Experts believe that the unique features of Hong Kong’s ETFs, such as the ability to create shares using actual cryptocurrencies, could attract more investors over time. “This innovation could help boost investor confidence and interest,” they add.
