Georgia’s Senate election is today. Here’s what it means for the economy and the markets

Georgia’s Senate race between incumbent Democrat Rafael Warnock and Republican challenger Herschel Walker will end in a runoff election on Tuesday. The outcome should not affect the economy in general or the markets specifically, but it could have political implications.

Democrats managed to maintain their majority in the Senate in the Nov. 8 midterm elections, 50 seats to Republicans’ 49. But the Georgia contest moved into a runoff after neither Warnock nor Walker won enough votes, 50 percent, to declare victory.

Two polls taken late last week showed a slight lead for Warnock, but BTIG’s Isaac Boltanski argues that even if Walker wins, his election should not move the stock one way or the other.
