ECB raises the volume of assets on the balance sheet

10.02.2021

The ECB has published fresh statistics on the change in assets on the balance sheet. The indicator for the week increased by €21.21 billion, against €9.01 billion a week earlier. The purchase of securities remained at the same level, while the volume of lending to European banks was increased. This is a negative signal for the euro, insofar as an increase in the growth rate of assets on the balance sheet promotes an increase in the money supply in the economy.

Tomorrow evening, the Fed will publish its statistics on the change in assets on the balance sheet and we will be able to compare the two indicators. Today’s US inflation data for January, in my opinion, will come out at the median forecasts, which will not have a strong influence on the market. Inasmuch as there is still an excess of dollar liquidity in the global financial system, in such conditions it is advisable to open Buy positions in this currency pair.

Investment idea: Buy 1.2110/1.2088 and take profit 1.2170.
