15:00 UTC – EU: ECB President Christine Lagarde will give a speech.

The main event of the day will be a speech by ECB head Christine Lagarde, who may hint at the need for further interest rate hikes in the eurozone amid high inflation. Her colleagues last week also hinted at the need for a 0.5% interest rate hike at the May meeting as the inflation trend in Europe is not even thinking about reversing.

The US Fed will also have a meeting in early May and here the regulator can either raise the rate by 0.25% or keep the rate at current levels. In any case the rate hike in Europe will be higher than in the States, which is favorable for the growth of the single European currency.
