Britain may start a new trade war with Europe

14.06.2021

British Prime Minister Johnson has threatened Europe with a new trade war. The reason for this may be a legal conflict around the supply of goods to Northern Ireland.

This is about the possible suspension of a part of the agreement, signed during Brexit, concerning supplies to Northern Ireland. This part of the UK is bordered by Ireland, which is still part of the EU. According to previous agreements preserved during Brexit, the two territories have a regime of free movement of people and goods.

On the sidelines of the G7 summit in Cornwall, Britain, Johnson said that London can act unilaterally if Brussels does not compromise.
