Apple just surpassed a $3 trillion valuation

Apple’s ascent to a valuation of $3 trillion makes it the most expensive company in the world, but that size can be hard to realize given how big that number is.

It’s 3,000 billion, or 3 million millions. It is also a little more than the annual gross domestic product of France, and almost twice the size of the entire stock market in India.

To fully appreciate how big Apple’s current estimate of $3 trillion is, Insider has compiled a list of the economies and stock markets of various countries that are now overshadowed by the size of a single American company.

Apple’s scale is underpinned by its core business of selling high-tech products around which it has built a vast ecosystem, making it increasingly difficult for customers to leave for competitors. Apple has annual revenues of $400 billion and annual profits of $100 billion.

Although the iPhone makes up the bulk of Apple’s business, even Apple’s AirPods are estimated to generate enough annual revenue for the company to make the Fortune 500 list if it were a stand-alone business.
