ARK buys Tesla stock; Musk says he’s ignoring cryptocurrencies

Katie Wood’s Ark Invest is betting big on Tesla Inc. the electric car company led by entrepreneur Elon Musk, who admitted last week that despite growing interest in the dot-com bitcoin ETF, he doesn’t pay much attention to cryptocurrencies.

Wood, a longtime supporter of automaker Musk, bought 111,000 shares of Tesla stock in a transaction on Wednesday, December 20th. Dec. 20. Flagship Ark Innovation ETF (ARKK) bought 93,965 shares worth about $23.2 million and ARK Next Generation Internet ETF (ARKW) bought 17,422 shares worth about $4.3 million.

Wood, ARK’s chief investment officer and founder, shorted Tesla shares in October, selling them for about $63.3 million. Coinbase and Tesla are ARKK’s two largest holdings.

Wood and Musk chatted live Thursday night on Forum X, formerly Twitter. While their conversation focused mostly on Musk’s vision for Company X, they also discussed artificial intelligence, why Musk doesn’t like index funds and bitcoin.
