OpenAI CTO’s Twitter account hacked to promote cryptocurrency scam

A phishing scam targeting followers of Mith Murati, OpenAI’s CTO, was uncovered by crypto-enthusiasts on Twitter. A scammer hacked into Murati’s verified account and posted a link to a fake site that claimed to offer free OPENAI tokens allegedly linked to the artificial intelligence firm behind ChatGPT. The tweet received a limited number of responses and was viewed by more than 79,000 people before it was deleted.

The website was similar to a legitimate project called ChainGPT, but with a malicious twist: It asked visitors to plug in their cryptocurrencies and sign fraudulent requests that would allow the attacker to drain their funds and NFT. A security researcher specializing in blockchain security warned of the dangers of the wallet drain kit used by the scammer.

The incident came as OpenAI announced a $1 million grant program for cybersecurity projects based on artificial intelligence. The company aims to use artificial intelligence to automate and improve various aspects of cybersecurity, such as fixing vulnerabilities, preventing social engineering and educating users.
