Volkswagen brings VW bus back to North American market after 20 years

02.06.2023

Volkswagen will begin selling battery-powered versions of its VW bus in North America starting in 2024, marking the return of the iconic model after a two-year hiatus.

The release of the all-electric ID. Buzz will also include an extended version that can seat up to seven passengers and is equipped with a more powerful 85 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery to increase range.

With the T4 generation, the VW bus left the U.S. and Canada 20 years ago. But the minibus – as the VW bus is called between New York and San Francisco – has retained its iconic status right up to the present day.

All ID. Buzz for the North American market will be assembled at Volkswagen’s plant in Hanover, Germany, the company said, adding that the batteries can be charged from 10%-80% in 25 minutes at available fast-charging stations.
