Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase asks users to exchange USDT for USDC

09.12.2022

Coinbase is waiving conversion fees for users wishing to switch to “trusted stackcoin” as part of a new campaign highlighting the quality of the reserves that support Circle USD Coin (USDC) owned.

Coinbase said it will waive fees for global retail customers to convert USDT to USDC starting today.

Coinbase is a co-founder of USDC.

Chain data shows that USDT is the third most traded digital asset on Coinbase, accounting for 5 percent of trading volume on the exchange, where it currently trades for 99 cents.

Days after the FTX crash, Tether (USDT) was knocked off its peg and was trading at 93 cents. Most trading pairs on exchanges have returned to $1, though CoinGecko data shows that on Binance it continues to trade at 99 cents on some pairs.

Binance recently discontinued support for USDC, automatically converting customer funds into its own BUSD Stablecoin.
