All iPhone 15 models will be equipped with cutouts for Dynamic Island display

19.09.2022

The entire iPhone 15 lineup will reportedly include the Dynamic Island iPhone 14 Pro. In a tweet spotted by MacRumors, display analyst Ross Young said he expects Apple to make the screen cutout standard on all 2023 iPhones. In addition, the company will reportedly retain ProMotion’s 120Hz display technology exclusively for Pro variants because of a supply chain that “cannot support” the feature in more affordable models. In a follow-up tweet, Young said that Apple will likely extend the technology to less expensive iPhone models in 2024.

Making “Dynamic Island” standard on all new iPhones in the future would make a lot of sense for Apple, especially to encourage developers to take advantage of the feature. Some apps already use the cutout for fun features. When iOS 16.1 is released later this year, Dynamic Island will also work with the Apple Live Activities API. This feature will also make the standard iPhone more appealing to consumers who stick with their current device. While the iPhone 12 was a big upgrade over the iPhone 11, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 proved less interesting. There’s not much reason to buy the latest model unless you’re transitioning from several years’ worth of iPhones, and that’s not good for Apple.
