European gas prices dropped sharply

11.10.2021

The exchange price for gas in Europe fell below $1,000 per thousand cubic meters. This is evidenced by trade data. At the opening of trading on Monday, October 11, the value of November gas futures on the Dutch TTF index was $995.5 per thousand cubic meters, which is 5.3 percent lower than at the close of trading on Friday.

Gas and electricity prices have skyrocketed to record levels because the winter heating season approaches. Due to high prices, many industrial giants have cut production, and rising citizens’ electricity bills have heightened public anxiety. For several weeks in September and early October, the cost of gas in Europe rose continuously, setting several records. On October 6, fuel cost $1,924 per thousand cubic meters.
