British currency fell sharply

29.09.2021

Fluctuations in the pound sterling in 2021 make it look like the currency of developing countries – the Mexican peso or the South African rand, not the dollar or the euro. This opinion was expressed by Cole, the chief currency strategist of the investment bank RBC Europe.

Over the past few months, the pound has depreciated against the dollar by more than five and a half percent – on May 31, 2021, the pound was worth $1.4209. On September 29, the British currency fell to $1.3433, with daily fluctuations at 0.84 percent. The pound rate against the euro fell by 0.52 percent to 1.1550 euros. Such volatility is rare for stable currencies. For comparison: the dollar against the ruble, one of the most volatile currencies in the world, changed during the day by only 0.37 percent.
