Earth salvation slowed down because of coronavirus

In addition to the loss of life and the economic crisis around the world, the pandemic has undermined efforts to save the planet from global warming. The demand for renewable energy has fallen along with the transition to a remote work format.

The difference in clean energy use has been particularly noticeable for companies from the RE100 initiative, whose goal is to depend only on renewable sources by 2050. According to Kyle Harrison, Bloomberg corporate energy strategist, 94 out of 222 RE100 members, who provided data, reported lower energy consumption compared to 2019 with the start of telecommuting. The expert believes that RE100 still represents potential for investment in clean energy, but the long-term perspectives have deteriorated a little bit.
