The Russian authorities have begun to prepare the domestic economy for the abandonment of the dollar. The Ministry of Finance said that stimulus are needed now to “move the economy far from the dollar.”

“Our, perhaps, the first goal is to make Russia a Europeanized country so that the dollar will be replaced by the euro. And I think that we have all reasons for this, which will also concern the liquidity of foreign exchange, and so on. But this requires stimulus,” explained Timofeev, Director of the Department for Control over External Restrictions of the Ministry of Finance. He did not specify exactly which stimulus were talked about, but at the same time allowed directive methods for a number of state-owned companies.

According to Timofeev, if a shift from the dollar occurs, it will allow the country to avoid further sanctions and, generally, make the world more democratic.
