ECB increases assets on the balance sheet

12.05.2021

A mixed background is being formed for the euro today. On the one hand, statistics from the ZEW Institute indicate an acceleration of economic growth in the euro area, which is positive for the euro. European businesses are expecting an increase in orders against the background of deferred demand due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On the other hand, the ECB published fresh statistics on the change in assets on the balance sheet, where it recorded an increase in assets by 20.8 billion euros. Let me remind you that a week earlier the figure was 9.6 billion euros. The increase in asset purchases will “slow down” the growth of the European currency.
