Apple disrupts market competition

The representative of the European Commission Vestager accused the iPhone manufacturer of suppressing competitors in the market of streaming applications.

According to Vestager’s preliminary conclusions, Apple with its Apple Music product violates the EU competition law for third-party music services. “The company charges high commissions from competitors in its AppStore and prevents them from informing consumers about alternative subscription options. Users on IOS devices suffer too,” wrote the executive vice president of the antitrust regulator on Twitter.

The allegations stemmed from Spotify’s 2019 announcement that Apple was holding back their innovation. In response, Apple said that it received no commission from 99 percent of Spotify subscribers.
