Slow vaccination can have a big influence on the European economy

05.02.2021

Too low pace of vaccination in Europe threatens it with substantial losses and even a failure in the economy. This conclusion is made by experts of the international insurance company Euler Hermes.

They warned that the observed delay could be finished with additional costs of 90 billion euros just in 2021. It is compared with a loss of two percentage points in GDP growth.

Moreover, the cost of a purchasing a vaccine is four times lower than this figure. Therefore, one euro spent on vaccinations can bring four euros, analysts explain. The point is that a faster restart of the economy will ensure profits through the production of goods and the production of services. However, countries that complete vaccinations faster than others can expect a sharp increase in consumption and investment in the second half of the year.
